Cutting speed

Below you can find the range of cutting speeds in which our bonds are usually used. It should be noted that the cutting speeds when grinding with CBN are higher than when grinding with diamonds, and that wet grinding is faster than dry grinding.

Metal bonds (M):
The cutting speed is mostly ideal between 20 m/s and 25 m/s; however, our metal bond can be successfully used with less than 1 m/s and up to 30 m/s. The cutting speed of a ø 0.2 mm grinding pin that turns with 40'000 rounds per minute amounts to only a little bit more than 0.4 m/s.

Resin bonds (R):
Are preferably used between 25 m/s and 28 m/s, but can be used in the range from 15 m/s to 35 m/s. Lower cutting speeds for smaller grinding pins are possible.

Vitrified bonds (V):
With our grinding wheels, we aim at a cutting speed of about 30 m/s to 35 m/s given that we only produce vitrified grinding wheels up to a diameter of ø 75 mm. Our vitrified grinding wheels also work with less speed if the spindle doesn't spin fast enough for the aforementioned speeds.

You can use the forms below to calculate the cutting speed if you put in the diameter of the grinding wheel and the revolutions per minute as well as the revolutions per minute if you put in the cutting speed and the diameter of the wheel:

In our catalogue you can find a table that converts the cuttings speeds into revolutions per minute and vice versa. You can print the relevant page.
